There was a huge nonfire...

Last night, the first bonfire of the season was lit at around 9:00 at the boy scout's home. A small gathering was had and some limited drink flowed, not unto unlimited debauchery, just a social gathering outside for the nice feeling of the spring air and camaraderie.

Unfortunately, the HFD rolled in around 11:00 with lights off and felt obligated to inform the boy scout and friends that the size of the logs was too large (a fact that I would have expected to be disclosed when the permit was issued to have the fire in the first place.) Apparently the neighbors had called the emergency line and they were required to inspect the fire pit. After inspecting it, we were informed that they would need to separate the larger logs and douse the fire because too much wood of large size was burning all at once.

They continued to spray water on the fire and the guests for so long that we considered asking them if they wanted burgers and beer. There was no doubt when they were finished that the mud would not re-light and cause unneeded havoc overnight.

Fortunately, we did not let the dousing of the fire dampen our spirits. We turned to the spirits and conversation, and we gathered around the barbecue grill and continued to converse until well into the early morning. I learned that some people that had known me for years peripherally, would like to garner deeper relations, conversations and gatherings to create a further and deeper bond.

After a short, rather accidental, and unintended side trip, we returned to the Lyon's den and spent much time in wrapped contemplation of a newly-added affection. A long-standing friendship was allowed a few more steps to closeness and emotional attachment and a warm and fuzzy lump ensued as sleep drifted in and we spent our morning in a warm and happy glow.

Some time later, Lyons and crew headed to Boston for a field trip and we rolled over and returned to cuddles and dreams.

After brunch, the day was spent with paperbacks, Starbucks and quiet non-physical activities.

It has been the first relaxing day in many weeks. Zero necessary activity, coupled with peace and warm glow. Lack of stress and lack of plan combined to make a nice, sedentary day in company of those seeking the silent companionship that many years of friendship brings.

Tomorrow, more nothing and possibly XXX: State of the Union.
